1. Strength train in the offseason
The first way to be able to ski or snowboard in the Salt Lake City area begins in the offseason. Perhaps it’s a little late this year, but always remember to strength train in the offseason. This is key for any sport. It is a lot easier to get strong in the offseason, than in the season when you are constantly on the mountain at every waking opportunity. In order to have strong and healthy knees, hips, quadriceps, glutes, etc. that are needed to ski or snowboard at Snowbird, Alta, Snow Basin, Park City, Brighton, or any of the Utah Ski resorts it must start in the offseason. The reason is that it takes time to build up strength, neuromuscular control, mobility, or whatever is needed to fly down the mountain. So it’s important to do the work in the offseason. 2. Address nagging aches or pains before they get more serious Often the skiers or snowboarders that we work with wait until the snow season appears to get help, or they wait until it has become something more serious. If you are itching to stay on the slopes and be able to ski or snowboard the beautiful Utah mountains, then it is important to address nagging aches and pains as they come up. If you are having a nagging ache and pain in the middle of summer it is important to address it right then, before it becomes something more serious, and before the snow arrives. This will ensure that you can spend the most amount of time on the fresh powder as possible. 3. Don’t be afraid to get help when needed Finally, certain nagging aches and pains or injuries can be too much to just rest or stretch. There is only so much that you can do on your own. If you are serious about skiing or snowboarding in the Salt Lake area, then it is important to realize when it is time to get help. Many people are uncertain and afraid to make the wrong decision in getting help, therefore they do nothing. This is the wrong approach. The sooner you get help the better and the easier the recovery will be. Don’t wait until it becomes much worse and thus harder to heal from. Here at Hall PT we specialize in helping skiers and snowboarders get rid of frustration, get off the couch, and get back on the slopes to enjoy the fresh powder that they love. We offer a free ski or snowboard specific discovery visit where you can discover what is going on and what can be done to get back on the mountain, just click below.
